Can’t Send Email

SMTP and Internet connection relationship (error Rejected emails)

Note: The SMTP and the connection should be with the same ISP regardless of what the incoming email is or which e-mail account is being used. A wrong combination will cause a rejected e-mail or relaying denied error. If a user is going to use his 650dialup connection to check other ISP email accounts, the SMTP server setting should be set to the ISP connection they are using. Example: if they are checking their EarthLink email using his 650dialup connection.

The e-mail set-up should be the following:
Incoming mail server: EarthLink pop server
Outgoing mail server: SMTP outgoing mail server e.g. smtp.650dialup.com
Connection: 650dialup

This also applies if the user wants to check their 650dialup email account using other ISP connection.
The e-mail set-up should be the following:
Incoming mail server: 650dialup incoming mail server e.g. pop3.650dialup.com
Outgoing mail server: AOL SMTP server
Connection: AOL
  1. Always verify that you are using the correct e-mail address format and mail server settings.
  2. Aside from using the name mail servers, changing or using the corresponding IP address for both incoming mail and outgoing mail server is another work-around the can be done for e-mail issues.

Port 25 Blocking

Many ISPs are blocking what is called "Port 25" which is the port used to send e-mail. They are doing this to cut down on the amount of spam that is sent from their networks. The ISPs that block port 25 require their SMTP server to be used instead of the remote SMTP server or a SMTP server running on your computer. SMTP communications generally take place using port 25. "Port 25 blocking" is a technique sometimes used by ISPs who have a problem with users connecting to external mail servers to commit email abuse. Put simply, the ISP blocks any outgoing connections on port 25 from its users to the outside world. Thus, the spammers cannot connect to the external mail servers to commit their abuse. You may contact the support team for further assistance with possible errors encountered concerning Port 25.

Banned due to Abuse

  1. It is possible that the user reached their limit of the number of email sent per hour. Example for 650dialup, the user  has a maximum of 30 emails sending per hour. If the user exceeds this they will be banned from sending by our server for 2 hours. They have to wait it out until the ban is removed.
  2. This may also be a glitch on OE, recreating the e-mail account set-up usually solves the issue.

Can't Send and Receive Email

  1. Possibly caused by a ghost connection Check if browsing is applicable or working.
  2. Check if there is an intrusive email virus scanner, spam blocker or anti-spam software e.g. Norton. E-mail scanning should be disabled by doing the following:

Open Norton > Options > Norton Options > Internet > Email scanning, remove scanning for incoming and outgoing mail

Server issues

Contact 650dialup support team for further assistance.

Over Quota

This happens if the mailbox is full, this will result a postmaster or mailer daemon returned mail for the sender, and email download problem for the email owner. Delete excess e-mail, free mailbox disk space and clear trash. Check if the username and password is in the correct format.
    Bounce Messages

The 650dialup support team needs to know what is stated in the bounced message to resolve the issue. If possible, take note of the exact bounced message or provide a sample bounced e-mail for reference.

Possible reasons: Mailbox is full, unknown email address, delayed delivery, blacklisted email or IP address

  Other Email Problems

Spam Complaints

  1. The spam filter that we have on the server minimizes the junk mail that passes through the mailboxes; it does not totally eliminate junk mails.
  2. Users may download spam filters / blockers available on the Internet.
