Definition of Terms
 
  • Domain name. A unique name that identifies a site on the Internet
  • IP address. A numeric address that is used to identify the location of a computer on the Internet.
  • Web Hosting. The business of providing the storage, connectivity and services necessary to serve files for a website.
  • Domain Registration. Process of selecting a unique domain name on the Internet.
  • Whois. An Internet service which obtains the information about the domain name owner.
  • Registrant. The entity, organization or individual that will be using the domain name.
  • DNS. Domain Name Service. Internet service that maps Internet domains into corresponding IP addresses.
  • Zone files. The group of files that reside on the domain host or name server. It designates a domain, its sub domains and mail server.
  • FTP (file transfer protocol). The Internet protocol defining how to download and upload files between a client and an FTP server.
  • POP3. Post office protocol. A protocol used to retrieve e-mails from the mail server.
  • SMTP. Send mail transfer protocol. A protocol used to send e-mails from the mail server.
  • Port 110. The port used in receiving e-mails.
  • Port 25. The port used in sending out e-mails.
  • A-record. The entry in zone file that maps the IP address of a particular host.
  • MX record. The entry in zone files which maps where the e-mails will be going for a particular domain.
  • Name Server. The server that contains the zone files for a particular domain.
  • Index or Homepage. This is what the first page of a website is called.

Hosting How To's (FTP Settings)
 


Using your 650dialup control panel (See Account Management), you may do the following tasks:

FTP accounts

  • Allows the customer to create additional accounts that will allow a user to log into the account in order to upload / download files.

Note: For additional FTP accounts, r emember to use the whole login including the colon.

Folder Protection

  • Allows the customer to protect files and folders by assigning users / groups to access these protected resources.

Change Password

  • Enables customer to change hosting and main ftp account’s password.

Logs

  • Enables the customer to download, view and clear the logs of the website.

File Manager

  • Enables the customer to transfer and create resources, files and folders.
  • Allows customers to change permissions and modify scripts.

FTP settings

  • This is the required ftp setting which is needed in order to access a specific ftp account so as to proceed with uploading of files:

Hostname:ftp.domain.com

Username: control panel username

Password: control panel password

Default folder: htdocs

Default file- index. Html

Name server settings: dns3.arishost.com

dns4.arishost.com

Email FAQ's

  1. Alias:

    An e-mail alias acts as a handle or a blank e-mail address that redirects the e-mail to the default pop3 e-mail account.

  2. Forwarder:

    An e-mail forwarder is a pointer which allows e-mails to be sent to either an e-mail account/forwarding e-mail address or multiple e-mail accounts.

  3. Spam Assassin:

    A Spam Assassin allows filtering of e-mails. It uses different commands, which allows junk e-mails to be segregated from valid e-mails. The spam filter command can also discard or automatically trash the spam e-mails.

  4. Mail Settings:

    Incoming Mail server setting (Post Office Protocol): pop3.650dialup.com Outgoing Mail server setting (Send Mail Transfer Protocol): smtp.650dialup.com

How to add E-mails

 
  1. Log onto your control panel. To add an e-mail address, type the preferred e-mail account, password, type the assigned password in the Again box and click the Add Account button. Note: Both account name and password should be typed in lower-case format.


  2. The newly added e-mail account will appear under the Login column.

How to change E-mails
 

  1. Log onto your control panel. On the E-mail Accounts tab, select the e-mail address you wish to be modified under the Login column.


  2. On the next page, type the new account name or the e-mail address and click Rename Account. The account name should be typed in lower-case format.

  3. To change the password of the modified account name or e-mail address, type the new password accordingly and click Change Password.
 
How to delete E-mails
 

  1. Log onto your control panel. On the e-mail accounts tab, select the e-mail account that you wish to be removed under the Login column.

  2. On the next page, click Delete.

Note: System will not allow deletion of the primary e-mail account because this is tied-up with your primary user id for your dial-up connection.

How to add an E-mail Alias

 

  1. Log onto your control panel. On the e-mail accounts tab, under the Login column, select the e-mail account that you wish to have a corresponding alias.

  2. On the next page, type the alias and click Add Alias.

  3. Go back to the previous page by clicking the Close link; the created aliases will be displayed accordingly on the assigned e-mail address.


 


How to change an E-mail Alias

 

  1. Log onto your control panel. On the e-mail accounts tab, under the Login column, select the e-mail account and its corresponding alias that you wish to modify.

  2. On the next page, your aliases will be displayed. Click on the checkbox of the alias that you wish to update, make the appropriate changes and then hit Update Selected.


 
How delete an E-mail Alias
 

  1. On the e-mail accounts tab, under the Login column, select the e-mail account and its corresponding alias that you wish to remove.


  2. On the next page, select the e-mail alias and then hit Delete Selected.

  3. Click the Close link to go back to the previous page. The changes will also appear on the Login and Alias column.

How to add/ change an E-mail Forwarder

 

  1. Log onto your control panel. On the e-mail accounts tab, under the Login column, select the e-mail account that you wish to assign a corresponding e-mail forwarder.

  2. On the next page, scroll down and type an e-mail account inside the forward list box and click Update Forward Info.

  3. To make changes on the forwarding e-mail address, repeat the first step and include the appropriate updates in the forward list box. Click the Update Forward Info button to save the changes.
Note: Multiple forwarding e-mail addresses can be added. Each e-mail address can be separated by a comma (,).
 
How to delete an E-mail Forwarder?
 

  1. Log onto your control panel. On the e-mail accounts tab, under the Login column, select the e-mail account that you wish to modify.

  2. On the next page, click the Clear Forward Info button to remove the forwarding e-mail address in the forward list box.


  3. Click the Close link to go back to the previous page.
Note: To remove an individual e-mail account specified in the multiple forwarding e-mail addresses; highlight and remove the specific e-mail address that you wish to be deleted in the forward list box. To save the changes, click the Update Forward Info button.

Clicking the Clear Forward Info button will remove all of the multiple e-mail accounts specified in the forward list box.

How to access Webmail
 
  1. Access your webmail page by following this format: http://domain.com/webmail. eg. http://carmenfbassociates.com/webmail.
  2. On the Mail log-in screen, type your complete e-mail address and password in lower-case format and click log-in.
  3. a) To create a new message, click New Message at the left hand side of the page.

    b) To return to your mailbox, click Back to Mailbox or Refresh at the left hand side of the page.

    c) To delete messages, select the specific e-mail that you wish to delete by clicking the available check-boxes and then click Delete All at the left hand side of the page.

    d) To quit your webmail, click Logout at the left hand side of the page.

How to activate a Spam Filter
 

  1. Log onto your control panel. On the e-mail accounts tab, select the e-mail account you wish to be modified.
  2. On the next page, select the checkbox for Use Anti-Spam Service. To activate your challenge / response whitelist, simply select the default e-mail account displayed in the drop-down picklist and hit Apply.
  3. You may also do the said update by selecting the default e-mail account from the Subscribe to a List dropdown picklist and hit the Subscribe button.
  4. To unsubscribe, click on the active link for the default e-mail account in the Subscribed Lists.
  5. You may also use any of the following forward command and type it in the forward list box to activate your spam filter:

Forward Command

Action on messages identified as spam

set:spamassasin:1

Tags message and offers preview. The message is attached to the notification email for the person to personally review.

set:spamassasin:discard

Message is destroyed.

set:spamassasin:tobulk
